Honda Celebration of Light 2017.
Since 1990, the Honda Celebration of Light has been delighting Vancouver with its festival of fireworks and music. This year marks the 27th Celebration (making this, officially, the longest running off-shore fireworks festival in the world) and it sure promises to be a doozy.
Three fireworks teams - one from the UK, one from Japan, and the hometown team from Canada - will compete by showing off their best stuff on three separate days. In celebration of 2017 as Canada’s 150th birthday, the three teams will incorporate Canadian songs into their fireworks display, commemorating classic Canadian music from (among others) the Tragically Hip, Bryan Adams, and Leonard Cohen.
The Honda Celebration of Light will take place on July 29, August 2, and August 5.
Vancouverites and out-of-town visitors alike can enjoy the Celebration from both paid and free areas, ranging from Second Beach to English Bay. (For more information on both ticketed and non-ticketed areas from where to enjoy the Celebration, check out this link.)
There’s a wide array of activities and shows for everyone to enjoy, aside from the iconic fireworks. As the Celebration of Light’s website puts it: “The fireworks are just the finale.” There’s airshows, live music from multiple groups, and a “food festival” consisting of a gathering of Vancouver’s most highly-rated food trucks.
And for families, there’s the RE/MAX Family Zone - complete with bouncy castle, games, face paint, and more. Kids and parents can find this funspot - perfect to enjoy the day right before the fireworks each evening - at the Park Stage at Second Beach, near the permanent Second Beach playground and pool. The Family Zone will be open from 2:00PM - 9:00PM each day of the festival.
